Google DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis believes that the latest AI models will not just aid in curing illnesses, but may also result in the eradication of all disease. The announcement of Hassabis's was met with an unexpected resounding endorsement from his rival as well as Perplexity AI Chief Executive Officer Aravind Srinivas, who called him an "genius".

In his CBS' 60 Minutes interview on Sunday, April 20th, Hassabis declared, "So on average, it can take, say 10 decades and trillions in order to create only one medication. We could cut this down to months, or even weeks. This sounds amazing now, but that's the way people used to think about the structure of proteins. It could revolutionize the health of humans, and I believe that one day we'll be able to cure all ailments through the use of AI."

When speaking to LinkedIn Chief Executive Officer Reid Hoffman recently, Hassabis said, "So we completed one billion years of PhD time in a single year. This was the time it took the time of a PhD student their entire PhD according to a general rule to find an individual protein's structure. It does about it take four or five years and there's a staggering amount of proteins in the world of science and we've wrapped them all up within a year. If we can determine the purpose of each protein, we can figure out the causes of the disease. Also, we can develop medications and molecules that attach to the correct part of the protein's surface when you understand the structure. This is a fascinating issue."

When asked to say if artificial intelligence could lead to the end of all disease, Hassabis responded, saying, "I think that's within the reach of possibility. In the next decade or that's the case, I'm not sure reasons why it wouldn't."
